about
Loosely based on a scene in the 2nd book of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series - where guests enjoy a meal as they watch the Universe explode - this song is a commentary on our current society and the dangers social media pose to the future of humanity. Our willingness to remain distracted and give ourselves away for the spectacle of 'watching the universe explode' is presented in the form of an upbeat disco tune to further illustrate that point.
lyrics
Lyrics:
Good evening, everyone
thank you for coming
I'm honored to be with you tonight
on this special occasion
The band will go on playing
to the light of livid, swollen stars
So drink to your heart's content
Saddle up to the open bar
Let's make our final moments last
at Mr Max's Doomsday Dance
(Oooh, let's party)
Is everyone having one last
wonderful time?
As the seconds tick down
enjoy your terminal wine
The universe comes
to an end around us
Make it count once again
'Cause after this
there's nothing else
A void to fill oblivion
Let's make our final moments last
at Mr Max's Doomsday Dance
It's wonderful though
just to see you here
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
It fills me with hope
and a love, sincere
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
'til we meet again
may you find your truth
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
And don't waste your best years
on your youth
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
I'll blow a kiss to you
just keep your eyes on me
(Oooh, let's party)
Ignore the signs above
and move with somebody
(Oooh, let's party)
Stoney-faced and blitzing
evermore toward the cosmic wedge
The temporal gymnastics
leave us balanced on a razor's edge
Let's make our final moments last
at Mr Max's Doomsday Dance
It's wonderful though
just to see you here
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
Giving up on
all your hope and fear
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
It's been such an honor
to get the chance
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
To see each and everyone one
of your last dance
(time after time, and again
after time, and again)
(Oooh, let's party)
